NYC Immigrant Heritage week

From April 17 to 24, 2013, the NYC Office of Immigrant Affairs brings us the 10th annual NYC Immigrant Heritage Week, a celebration of the 37% of New Yorkers who are immigrants as well as nearly all other residents who share an immigrant past. 

The week is a mix of cultural events, academic discussions, and immigrant recognition. You can follow the events on a facebook page or you can search "Immigrant Heritage" on the NYCulture Calendar page.  the They will also announce the winners of the 2013 American Dreamer Awards. The awards honor individuals and organizations whose significant accomplishments and contributions have improved the lives of immigrants and their communities in New York City.

The Graduate Center itself is hosting an exciting roundtable on Argentine tango and migration on Thursday (4/18). Presenters will explore the ways through which the Argentine tango has been deeply intertwined with evolving artistic expressions, spearheaded by the journeys of tango interpreters and practitioners through time. A reception will follow this event. This event is free and open to the public.
