Trying to Inculcate 'Heritage' Language Skills in Kids
In this Washington Post article, referencing Ruben Rumbaut, Spanish language-heritage families, who seem to be all upper middle class, try to get their kids to retain Spanish. Music tapes for kids, Spanish-speaking nannies, and Spanish programs at school all help when the kids are younger. But then, at least for Rumbaut's son, the language of the teenager's social circle makes a big difference.
